Tutorial: Ring Sling Front/Hip Carry

Ring slings are so quick and easy to use! I keep one in my diaper bag and one in my car at all times because I never know when I will need it. In fact, one of my slings came in handy a couple weeks ago when I rushed my kids to a last minute doctor’s appointment and forgot Max’s shoes!

Today, I will be using a Bibetts pure linen ring sling in bamboo yellow to demonstrate a front/hip carry in a ring sling. I say front/hip because I wear my sling kinda off to the side–not exactly front or hip but in between. This is because when I wear directly on my hip, my back hurts and when I wear on the front, there is usually a head in my face after a certain size.

First we have to thread the ring sling!

Bring the sling across your back with the rings on your shoulder.

The other side will come under your arm.

Bring the fabric across your chest.

dsc_0007

Pleat the fabric to help it thread easier.

dsc_0008

Pull the fabric through both rings.

dsc_0009

 Separate the rings.

dsc_0010

Bring the pleated fabric back through the bottom ring.

dsc_0011

Using your thumbs and fingers, un-bunch the fabric in the rings.

dsc_0012

Pull the fabric straight through the rings to flatten everything out.

dsc_0013

Bunch all the fabric in your “pouch” part to make a spot for the child.

Get your child! (Hi Minerva!)

dsc_0015

Get them up on your shoulder a little…

…high enough for you to reach through the bottom to grab their ankles.

dsc_0017

Sit them in your sling with all the fabric bunched to the back of their knees.

dsc_0018

Grab the top of the sling fabric and

dsc_0019

pull it up over their back

up to their shoulders for arms out or back of the neck for arms in.

dsc_0021

Adjust the seat so that they are sitting comfortably with the bottom of the sling in back of their knees and in a nice deep seat–“M” shaped

Adjust the fabric so that it is spread comfortably over your shoulder and across your back.

dsc_0025

Tighten your sling. When tightening, lift your child  a little and

dsc_0026

pull the fabric back in the direction that it came from. The lift/pull combination helps the sling tighten easier and also helps keep the rings in place.

Tighten throughout the entire sling.

Now you are all done! Congratulations!
